Today marks the infamous marketing scam that is ‘Blue Monday’! While ‘Blue Monday’ is technically a myth, we have certainly all been impacted by the Monday blues before. To help you through, we’ve created a quick-read guide to surviving ‘Blue Monday’, that will get you into a positive mindset for the rest of the week.
Start your day with a win
Starting your day with a win will set you up for a week of productivity and positivity. Even if it’s just getting through your emails or ticking off a small admin task, get it done early doors - trust us, it will give you the Monday motivation you need.
Spice up your lunch break
Try visiting a new café, treating yourself to a coffee or venture to a different part of town on your lunch break this Monday. Shaking up your routine can help chase away the blues and keep things exciting. Plus, everyone enjoys a little treat now and again…
Make plans to look forward to after work
Whether it’s an exercise class, a cinema trip or making dinner with a close friend, plan something to look forward to after work. This will make your day feel faster and motivate you to the end!
Accept your emotions
Remember that it’s ok to feel a little under the weather sometimes and it’s important to let yourself feel your emotions - even the negative ones. Mindfulness is a handy approach which can help you live in the moment and healthily process your emotions.
Preach positivity
It can be hard to be positive when you’re feeling down in the dumps but fake it ‘til you make it! Compliment someone, do a good deed or write down three things you’re grateful for/looking forward to. If you put positivity into the universe you shall receive it back!
Switch off before bed
Get into the habit of switching off your phone/laptop/TV at least an hour before going to bed. Instead, try winding down with a good book or podcast. Eradicating your exposure to blue light at least an hour before snoozing off will help improve the quality of sleep you’re getting and set you up for a great day ahead.
