Would you make a good project social worker?

Helping local authorities achieve the best possible outcome for service users is at the heart of project social work, and we believe is one of the most rewarding career paths to exist. But what can you expect if you decide to take on a project-based social work role with Imperium Solutions? Carry on reading to find out!

What does being a project social worker entail?

We currently offer roles under adult services and children’s social work activities.

As most of our Adult focused roles are in review and assessment, you would be working closely with service users to understand their needs while ensuring they are in a safe environment and mitigating any risk associated with the case.

Candidates interested in working within our children’s division can expect variety - you would be working with young people and families from an array of backgrounds, each with unique needs. Ergo, it is important you are a naturally patient person, as well as a good listener and skilled problem solver.

Whether you decide to work in our adult division or childrens’ division, we will provide you with 1-1 support throughout your role with the help of a project lead.

Required qualifications

As with any social worker role, a degree in social work (either honours or postgraduate) is mandatory. This will need to be approved by either Social Work England, Social Care Wales, Northern Ireland Social Care Council or the Scottish Social Services. See if your course is ratified here.

Desirable skills

On a day to day basis, you will be helping support vulnerable people to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. With this in mind, employers will often look for the following characteristics when hiring a project social worker:

  • Empathy

  • Exceptional communication skills

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Critical thinking

  • Problem solving

  • Works well under pressure

  • Resilience

Work experience

To help make your application stand out, make sure to note any relevant work experience you may have completed. This can be anything from social work placements, to volunteer work at your local youth club. Just be sure to highlight your key learnings from the experience and how it enhanced your understanding of the social work sector.

Career progression

At Imperium Solutions, we champion the career aspirations of our candidates and want to help them succeed on their professional path without any hurdles along the way. That’s why we offer free CPD training, as well as the opportunity for ongoing work available across our client portfolio.
